The Kokiri Training Centre gained recognition as a registered provider from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority in July 1992. All courses are designed to promote a whanau learning environment. Whanau are encouraged to take an active role in the students learning.
The Kokiri Training Centre recognises and supports all those learners that feel that a Maori style learning environment would better suit their needs.
The Kokiri Training Centre is committed to focusing on equipping learners with the skills required to gain quality employment or further training.
The Kokiri Training Centre has a formal Memorandum of Understanding with the Otago Polytechnic, which describes our intention and commitment to mutual cooperation on delivery of courses based on Levels 1 and 2 of the National Qualifications Framework as well as the sharing of appropriate resources wherever possible. This M.o.U works to provide the bridge between learning foundation skills and entering higher level tertiary courses.
We also support and assist in the delivery of Te Wananga o Aotearoa programmes through our service level agreement with that organisation. This partnership currently includes the popular Social Services and Te Ara Reo Maori programmes.
In addition we are directly contracted by Te Wananga o Aotearoa to deliver the Certificate in Small Business Management and Certificate in Money Management.

government and community providers and is the only Maori Training

Because the Kokiri Training Centre is located and operates within the rohe of Ngai Tahu it will adopt and apply the Ngai Tahu values in the following ways:
Whanaukatanga (Family).
He ora te whakapiri, he mate
te whakatakariri.
There is strength in
unity, defeat in anger.
In our business we will promote and generate respect for each other and those who deal with us, and will endeavour to enhance that by building lasting relationships on a strong foundation.
Manaakitanga (Looking after our people).
Ko te whatumanawa he Maori,
he ngakau aroha.
Aroha ki te tangata, tetahi ki. tetahi.
The heart that beats in
Maori is one of compassion.
Have love and regard to
all people and to one another.
We accept our obligations to be hospitable, supportive and honest in our communications. We will create an environment in which those dealing with us will respond to those qualities and develop a preference to deal with us because of that recognition.
Tohungatanga (Expertise).
Whaia te Matauranga.
Seek the knowledge.
We will strive for excellence in all that we undertake. Knowledge and expertise is prized within our organisation. We promote consistently high levels of achievement and recognition of expertise.
Kai Tiakitanga (Stewardship).
Mo tatou a ka muri ake nei.
For us and our children
after us.
We pledge and respect this value in everything that we do. We will train our people to regard this as an absolute given. It will have special force and emphasis in those activities that relate to environmental and preservation matters in particular.
